Passengers 100 first, 360 troops. Crew 40 men.
History:One of five wooden paddle steamers for the Brazil Mail Contract. Although the company wished to build iron hulled vessels the Government mail contract in 1851 still called for wooden hulls. Frames were erected by October 1850 but completion delayed by modifications following distraction of the 'AMAZON' by fire.
Re-built extensively at Wigram's Blackwall Yard following discovery of dry rot in 1853.
17th April 1852. Maiden voyage, Southampton - West Indies.
1855. Chartered by the French Government as a Crimean war transport.
27th November 1856. Boiler explosion while at Southampton, 4 died.
27th June 1860. First voyage from Galway to New York.
7th August 1860. Second voyage.
7th May 1861 Last voyage.
20th December 1861. Sailed from Southampton.
9th January 1862. Arrived at Cape Breton, coaled then proceeded to St. John's.
1868. Engines removed. Stationed as a hulk at St.Thomas.
1876. Sold and broken up at St.Thomas. Last wooden vessel in fleet.
